Edgar Cayce’s approach to psychic development and intuition is that we need to learn how to use it for constructive purposes. Learning how to help one another, for example, is a great context for intuitive development.

Read these articles from our library that suggest that the heart, or our ability to empathize, may play an important role in our intuition with others.

Here is an exercise from the Edgar Cayce Legacy Conference at A.R.E. headquarters in Virginia Beach, an ongoing intuition training workshop that has been popularly attended for several years. It is based upon the simple notion that Caring makes a bond of intuitive empathy. When we say to "take someone into your heart," it means you can "find them in your heart" and thus experience an intuitive connection with that person. Telling a story about yourself, based upon an intuitive choice of personal memories, can become a form of intuitive guidance for that person, provided you allow that story to come to mind via your own intuitive heart.

Read the description of the exercise in the reading noted below, and then try it for yourself with a friend or acquaintance.

Henry Reed: "Discoveries of the Intuitive Heart™" :

Now you try the "In My Experience" exercise yourself. Find a friend or spouse. Tell them you are practicing your "intuitive story telling skills." Explain that you will tell them a story based upon your own experience. You are learning how to tell stories that connect with the listener’s needs. Ask them to think about something going on in their life for which they could use a new, creative, helpful perspective. Then follow the method outlined in the article. You can use the affirmation given below:

Tune into the breath, let it go, let your breath remind you that in its flow, you can "trust in inspiration." Reach out with your heart to your friend. Experience a heart connection with your friend. Take your friend into your heart. Be willing to share of yourself with your friend. Mentally repeat the following affirmation: "I now allow my intuitive heart to bring into my awareness a personal memory from a specific experience from my past, an experience which, when I reflect upon it aloud, speaking from the heart, for the benefit of my partner, my sharing will spark inspirations in my partner that will prove helpful to my partner’s concern."

Assignment #32

Read the following article as a means of understanding what happened in the Intuitive Heart™ exercise: "Intuition as Pattern Recognition" Then write up an account of your experimentation with this exercise and discuss what it shows you about the functioning of intuition. Discuss these questions:

  • How does wisdom grow from learning by experience?
  • What is the difference between giving advice and sharing personal experience?
  • How much does the desire to be helpful contribute to the validity of the intuition manifested?
  • Whose intuition is at work in this exercise--yours or your friend’s?
  • Did the exercise demonstrate oneness? Build closeness?

Share your experiences in an email with a friend. Do an Intuitive Heart reading for your friend and ask them to comment.
