Confucius, the inventor of I Ching, was reported to have said that the person who was truly in touch with the Tao could read the hexagrams in the clouds or in the waving grass. In other words, when we are really attuned, in the flow, in touch with our intuition, in touch with synchronicity, listening to nature, and willing to learn, we can find the answers written in the wind. Why don’t you try it?

In this assignment, you will practice divination with only nature as your tool. First you’ll read a brief description of a simple process of going for a synchronicity walk. Then you’ll try it. To finish the assignment, you’ll write up a report of your experience.

Reading in the Library:

Synchronicity Walk

Now you go for a synchronicity walk, a vision quest on a stroll. Begin with a question, one that you can act upon in some manner to test out the validity of the guidance you receive. Then go for a walk. Expect to notice things in nature at key moments in your stream of thought, noting objects in nature that will trigger insights and connections with regard to your question.

Assignment #31

Write up your experience. Describe the question you held, the nature objects you noted, the synchronicity experiences you encountered, the guidance received, and the way you evaluated that guidance.

  • What is the relationship of the synchronicity walk to the practice of divination?
  • How did your intuition participate in the experience?
  • How does a process like the synchronicity walk bring together intuition and spiritual development?

Email your story to your friends. Invite them to go for a synchronicity walk and let you know what happened. Maybe you'll meet them on the trail.

Self-Insight:

Vision Quest:
The intuition involved in a “synchronicity walk” easily leads into thoughts of a “vision quest,” where a person goes out on a solitary ordeal lasting one or more days. The link below gives one example of such an opportunity. You may search on www.google.com for other sources of information for this type of experience.
