To "divine" is to know God’s will. Usually some instrument based upon synchronicity is used as an oracle. You will read in Mark Thurston’s book on synchronicity (see below) how he uses the I Ching to demonstrate the oracular function of divination. You will have the opportunity to perform your own divination as a means of receiving intuitive guidance for a personal issue.

In this assignment, you’ll practice divination. But first, a bit of reading.

Intuitive Decision Making in An Age of Chaos:

Now to get to work and apply these ideas. It's time to divine!

To get an overview of divination methods, we suggest you visit "Facade" to explore a variety of divination tools. In particular, try your hand at numerology, Runes, I Ching, and "stichomancy."

A good experience in divination that gives training in the general process of divination without reference to any of the classical tools can be found at "Listening In". Be sure to take advantage of the "Interpretation hints" when you try a divination. These hints have very good information about how to allow your intuitive mind to bring insights into awareness.

Explore "Web Divination" for such methods as "scrying," "African divination" and "geomancy."

And you may enjoy "Serena's Guide to Divination."

If you’d like to explore the components of divination: synchronicity, the wisdom in a particular tool, the practitioner’s own intuition, and other factors that go into making up a divination reading, then go explore Sharing Wisdom: Looking Under the Hood of Spiritual Guidance: www.creativespirit.net/henryreed/sharingwisdom.htm

Finally, you way wish to enter the search term, "divination" into the search engine found at google.com and see what other examples of divinations on the web you may find.

Assignment #30

Try the I Ching listed in the recommended web site above. Try an alternative method of divination from one of the web sites listed above. In each case, work with a real question or concern, one that you can act upon to test out the guidance received. When you have done so, then write up the results of your experiments. Include information with regard to the following questions:

  • What role does intuition play in the divination process?
  • Is the role of synchronicity more, less, or equally important than the role of intuition?
  • How did the two divination processes you used compare in terms of ease of use, meaningfulness, validity when tested in real life?
Email comments upon your exploration to your friends. Send them some links on the I Ching and ask them to give it a try. Perhaps you can begin to do readings for each other.
