What is intuition? How shall we define it? We saw that people report many different types of experiences suggestive of intuition, from ESP experiences, creative experiences, metaphysical, spiritual, paranormal, and just plain mysterious experiences. Does intuition cover all this territory?

Read the pieces of material in the off-campus links listed below. Afterward, respond to the questions below and submit your answer to the discussion area.

Go to these off-campus sites to explore the definition of intuition: (Navigation tip: Clicking on these links will open a new browser window. Come back to this page by closing the windows for the sites you visit while you are away.  This window will remain open so you can come back to it.)

Questions to consider:

  • Is it important to be able to define intuition?
  • What difference does it make how you define it?
  • Intuition can be defined negatively (knowing without knowing why you know) or positively (direct knowing, knowing from within). Intuition can be defined with an ESP component or without it. What are the implication of these approaches to defining intuition?
  • Is intuition a single phenomena?

Assignment #3:

Create your own definition of intuition. After you do so, respond to the questions above, indicating how your definition takes these issues into account. Email your response to your friends and ask them to respond.
