Description of Class
The principal purpose of the class is to learn dream interpretation skills through practical, hands-on training. At each class session, participants will learn and apply a different dream interpretation method to a personal dream they bring to class. Although there will be some time allotted to intellectual discussion concerning the theory of dreams and dream interpretation, the majority of time will be devoted to a workshop format focused on practicing dream interpretation skills.
Instructor
Henry Reed, Ph.D, has been teaching dream classes since 1970, where he introduced a course on dreams at Princeton University. You can read his philosophy of dream interpretation by clicking here. It is a chapter from his book, Getting Help from Your Dreams, available from Hermes Home Press.
Class Attendance
Participants may opt to attend only certain classes, at $15 per class. Students who opt to attend all six classes, and who pay in advance of the first class, may register for the entire series for $75, a savings of $15.
Each class will be self-contained. No prior knowledge from previous classes will be required, although students who attend all classes will benefit most from each individual class.
Scheduled Dream Interpretation Methods
These are the scheduled dream interpretation methods anticipated for the course. Depending upon the makeup of class attendance and class events, there can be changes in this schedule.
1) Dream Drawing Story Game. [September 19] A dream is a story with feelings and symbols. A drawing of your dream can provide surprising insights. Students will receive a password to read an illustrated article on this method.
2) Dream Energy Body. [October 10] Using a full, body-size dream "self-portrait" we will learn how to map the flow of subtle energy in the body as visualized in the dream. Students who participate in this class will receive a password to read an illustrated article related to this method.
3) Symbolic Mask Work. [October 24] As an alternative to using a symbol dictionary (and there are some good ones, based upon the history of symbolism, mythology, fairy tales and common speech), we can learn to explore the personal meaning of symbolism by reflection and role playing. Dreams and Theater are ancient kinfolk. Making a mask from a dream symbol lifts the curtain on a stage where dreams come alive. Students who participate in this class will receive a password to read an illustrated article related to this method.
4) The Dream Poet. [November 7] Sometimes the details in a dream are important and sometimes they get in the way. Creating poetry from dreams can express the essence of a dream and deliver to your awareness a new focus of understanding.
5) The Alchemical Energy of the Dream. [November 21] The body is as much the dreamer as is the mind. Getting into physical harmony with the dream can release energies capable of taking you to new levels of experience.
6) Dream Mandalas. [December 5] Expressing dreams through the creative arts is an important dimension to dream interpretation. In this class we'll examine different ways to interpret dreams with the creative arts. We'll make a dream mandala. Henry's experience with watercolors, dreams and mandalas can be viewed at www.creativespirit.net/henryreed/artgallery.
Course Benefits
Students enrolled in the entire course will receive a password to view or download portions of Henry's book, Getting Help from Your Dreams, which covers the methodologies taught in the class.
