Many people of good will are repelled by the psychic field. Sometimes, perhaps often, people dealing in the psychic realm inaccurately name their work spiritual. Some of the problems encountered are:
1) Individuals
set themselves up as gurus/teachers, expecting followers and obedience. Some
of their behavior would not be tolerated in almost any other field, yet they
attract people.
2) The names used by individuals: healer, psychic, medium, channeler,
'reader', are foreign and often repugnant to many who consider themselves to
be in the "mainstream".
3) The way work is done: the power is in the other, not in the seeker.
For example, someone anoints you, makes you an initiate, passes on power, awakens
you, cleanses your chakras, clears your energy, talks to a dead relative and
tells you they said..., heals you, etc.. It is all very mysterious and the power
situation is retained by the "one who knows".
4) Psychic impressions, voices, visions, and feelings can be wrong...
dead wrong. One right answer tends to create belief in everything a psychic
says. Research has shown that good psychics tend to be right 20% to 30% of the
time. I know of only one individual who has exceeded that score, and she too
is capable of making mistakes.
5) Psychic impressions are believed, even though the information or advice
given is poor. Some people seem to think that if it came from a discarnate spirit,
the information has to be true, which is a serious mistake. Spirits are not
all created equally. Some 'information' received is not worthy of attention
at all.
6) People tend to give their power to those who can do mysterious things.
It seems important to develop a healthy, yet respectful skepticism in the whole
psychic arena.
