Food. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are on your own. The kitchens
in each condo will make it easy to cook for yourself, if you want, and the large
number of groceries, restaurants and fast food places in Aspen and Snowmass mean
that we will not go hungry. A list of restaurants will be distributed in
the registration packet.
Travel Options and Directions. Timberline, where we will be meeting
and staying, is located in Snowmass, CO, 5 miles west of Aspen. We will be
approximately 200 miles (4 1/2 hours) from Denver via I-70 and CO Hwy. 82.
By the same highways, we will be 130 miles from Grand Junction and 80 miles from
Eagle County airport. United Express, Northwest and America West also regularly
fly out of Denver’s International Airport to Aspen‘s (Sandy Field) airport.
Flights into the Aspen (Sandy Field) airport are as low as $433 roundtrip from
the Washington, DC area and $333 from the Los Angeles area. Flights in and out
of the Denver airport are even more reasonable, but will entail a higher shuttle
cost or the rental of a car. Of course, the least expensive flights tend
to arrive and depart on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
All airports have ground transportation (shuttle service) and rental cars
available. Colorado Mountain Express (800-525-6363), Lightning Limosine
(888-925-7505), and Snow Limo (877-859-5466) serve the Denver, Eagle and Grand
Junction airports, and are recommended by Timberline as reputable shuttle
services. If you fly into the Aspen airport, call Timberline at 923-4000
when you get off the aircraft and a courtesy van driver will pick you up and
take you to the Timberline.
If you are driving to Snowmass Village (either by rental car or in your own
vehicle), you will need to obtain a parking permit at the front desk. The
fee is $15 for 7 days or less. You may also rely on Aspen/Snowmass public
transit. The Roaring Fork Transit Agency (RFTA) provides extensive bus
service between Aspen and Snowmass, and further out to Basalt and Glenwood
Springs.
August in Aspen is a great time to visit! It is an especially
creative time of year for the number of artists who live and work in the Aspen
area. For this reason alone you might want to come a day or two early or
leave a day or two after the conference ends.
Come a day early. Stay a day late. Explore Aspen.
